We took our name
from an archeological site in the Boyne Valley in Ireland. Newgrange
as a structure was built over 5,000 years ago and appears to be one of the
best examples of a successful, quality project since the last we heard the
roof still doesn't leak.
Newgrange is one of three sites in an area referred to as Bru na Bóinne.
Newgrange is obviously the most famous, with its annual display of
perfect Winter Solstice sunrise alignment, but Knowth has been dated to
3,300BC, and Dowth may be older still.

Newgrange - Ireland
The actual site is a large mound 280 feet in diameter and was discovered
in 1699. However, it wasn’t until the actual excavation of the site
between 1962 and1975 that it was determined that it was built around
3150 B.C. The site has many interesting features, among which is a slit
in the door that only allows light in precisely at dawn on the winter
solstice, indicating some knowledge of astronomy. The construction
aspects of the site are numerous and interesting, from the white quartz
wall, to the standing stones, to the carved entrance stone. it is Indeed
a project that has stood the test of time and one we're proud to
commemorate.
The following
sites have more detailed information on this site if you are interested.
We realize
there are only so many time you can see the same rock but there's still
some interesting reading out there on the web.
Ireland:
Light. Body and Soul -- An artistic look at Newgrange
Mythic Ireland - A nicely done site by someone patient enough to
take pictures of all the kerb stones (especially at Knowth)
Stone Pages
-- A professionally done site tracking standing stones, passage tombs,
stone forts and dolmens throughout Europe, Britain and Ireland.
We've marked the page on Newgrange but there's lots more to see.
