Tips on Managing Your Email from a Discussion List
by Jeff Shepard

There have been comments made that people have unsubscribed because of the number of posts they receive is simply too many to read, leaving them with only the alternative of dropping of the list.  I don't see it that way and have three different approaches to the problem

1. If there are too many posts for  me to read, I simply delete them 50 at a time without reading them. I feel absolutely no guilt. I would much rather participate intermittently  (due to time constraints) than not at all.

2. Follow individual topics : I find some topics more engaging than others - I will read the first post of a topic and, if it does not appeal, delete following posts without review. I will miss out on topics that mutate into something more engaging, but, again, I find this a low cost to save time.

3. Follow individual persons: As I use the list, I also find some persons more appealing to my interests than others. I delete without review (again with no guilt at all )those whose focus or writing style does not fit well with me.

Following this three step procedure has allowed me to use the list effectively within my personal time constraints. As I ruthlessly apply steps 2 and 3, I find less need to implement 1.
