Dr. Frame postulates the role of the project manager as the "CEO" of the project.  Simple technical knowledge isn't enough any more causing a PM to live and die by their general management skills

Herding Chickens by Dan Bradbary and David GarrettThe authors' goal is to make project management clear and accessible.  The tone is informal and the approach is an interesting combination of the basic and the astute.  Definitely a book to check out.  If the style and approach resonates with you the author's have a lot of good wisdom to share.
