Rapid Development by
Steve McConnell
Whenever someone asks for just one book to read on software development
I always recommend McConnell's. At 608 pages it has something to
say about almost any situation you could find yourself in.

Managing Agile Projects
by Sanjiv Augustine
How do you really apply agile principles in the real world. Sanjiv
takes his considerable knowledge and experience in running XP projects
and uses it as a foundation for outlining how real management happens.
A great addition to the literature

Agile Project Management
by Jim Highsmith An introduction to the core principles and practices for agile
project management. Of course I'm biased I was one of the editors,
but there's lots of both specific hows and whys to make the book a more
than just an introduction. I especially like Jim's suggestions on
running a project kick off meeting

Exploiting Chaos; Cashing in
on the Realities of Software Development
by Dave Olson
Dave Olsen shows how
the standard linear model of software development can result in software
failures. This is the best book I've read on the topic.
